So..... check out these beauty neck warmers I made! Cute right?
This pattern was chosen for an order of two neck warmers / cowls for two beautiful little girls; the customer chose their colours and left me to decide on the pattern. I chose the Blue Pine Snood, a beautiful pattern by Stacy Lee (find it on Ravelry here), and got to work on them, double knitting for warmth. They came out beautiflly, however there's a definite design flaw if you double-knit it the way I did, as the pattern stretches the wrong way!!
As you can see in the pictures above, it does a great job of expanding and collapsing to cover your face, (or not). Unfortunately it doesn't have the same give horizontally, therefore it's not easy to stretch over your head... oops. Perhaps knit in a lighter yarn this pattern would work, but that wouldn't have been any closer to what the little ladies these were made for needed - winter warmth, and ease of use.
So, a lesson in K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid! I was so wrapped up in making something pretty for these ladies, that I neglected to think that when it comes to keeping us warm this winter, it's function over fashion! So, when I learned that the poor girls couldn't get their cowls over their heads, I grabbed the needles and whipped up something just as thick and warm, but a little more functional:
I was glad to deliver the new cowls and see them try on their new cowls; the recipient of the blue and pink one threw her cowl over her head immediately and squeeled in delight - a satisfied customer, if I've ever seen one!
So a lesson in keeping it simple, and a reminder to all my customers that if there is ever a problem with your order: let me know right away, I'll be happy to make it right!
